I have ADHD. For most of my life I was unaware as my symptoms manifested very different than it would for how it presents in males. It wasn't until we officially diagnosed my daughter at age 13 that everything clicked into place for how it affected both her and I. My ADHD symptoms grew exponentially over the years, especially as I went through perimenopause and the beginning of menopause after a hysterecomy. I also have hypothyroidism that had its own whole host of symptoms.
It was hard to distinguish which symptoms went with which problem. What I did know was that I was tired ALL the time, had constant brain fog and couldn't remember the most basic pieces of information or directions. And, yet, I couldn't sleep. Not only was it hard to fall asleep, it was almost impossible to stay asleep. I tried cutting out caffiene completely, which I had been needing to do anyways because it was starting to give me constant heart palpitations especially after regulating my thyroid with medication. No caffiene temporarily meant my sleep improved until it just didn't anymore. My body adjusted and the onset of perimenopause caused cortisol spikes during the night that would wake me up in night sweats, heart thumping wildly, racing thoughts and unable to fall back asleep for hours and hours.
I had heard of magnesium as helping so I did my research and tried several different supplements before I found one that didn't affect my digestion negatively. So, while I do believe that supplementation helped in my obvious magnesium defieciency (did I also mention I have hereditary high blood pressure that occasionally needs diurectics that just depletes my system of magnesium and potassium?), I didn't notice any real changes to my sleep problems or normal everyday ADHD symptoms of a brain that just would never shut off, especially at night.
Obviously during my research I had come across magnesium oil spray, but somehow assumed that since I was already supplementing orally then I was fine. It wasn't until a good friend bought some, tried it and said it literally changed her life - especially how she slept and how she handled ADHD - that I was intrigued enough to go on a deep dive. What I discovered was not only fascinating and more than I ever anticipated, it was life changing.
But could I make an oil that not only addressed sleep issues, but also addressed peri/menopause as well? I experimented until I found a formula that would work for me and other women my age as well as gentle enough that children, especially those with ADHD, could also use. The first time I used it, I was gently lulled into the deepest sleep I had in ages. My husband was completely shocked when I didn't wake up to his early five a.m. alarm and I was shocked that I woke up the next day with no grogginess. I continued to use with great success and then let all my ADHD kids experiment with it at night. My daughters never forget a nightly spritz and make sure to pack it on sleepovers. It impacted my son so much that even though he forgot his toothbrush and deodorant for camp, he did NOT forget his magnesium oil spray. Not only that, he shared it with his bunk mate who quickly asked for it every night before lights out.
And while it did not take away all my hot flashes, it did cut down on them significantly and took away my night sweats. But the best part? No more shooting up in bed with heart palpatations and racing thoughts at 3 a.m.!!! And if I did wake up, it was a soft nudge that allowed me to gently wake up and visit the bathroom and then fall right back into deep sleep again. I started dreaming again. And I completley didn't have a need for that daily magnesium pill anymore.
I have talked about this miracle in a bottle with everyone from friends and family to cashiers at the store. When something works, you just have to share! I am excited for others to try, especially those with auto-immune issues that affect their sleep cycles and/or nervous system. While I don't experience fibromyalgia myself, this sounds like a great supplemental add-on to help with nerve pain and restlessness.
So, how does Magnesium Oil work?
The mineral magnesium is responsible for over 350 cellular processes in the body. It contributes to nerve health, hearth health, and immune health. It works specifically on the parasympathetic system by regulating neurotransmitters in the brain. It does this by slowing down the release of glutamate in the body and releasing GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a neurotransmitter that turns off nerve cell hyperactivity. This helps to calm the brain and nervous system which, in effect, eases anxiety, nervousness, racing thoughts, restless legs, and chronic str
Magnesium can also block the neuroendocrine pathways that send cortisol to the brain. This can help regulate neirotransmitters that would normally flip on when someone is stressed or anxious. Lower cortisol levels means deeper sleep cycles and less stress on our adrenal glands. Magnesium also binds to calming receptors in the brain, which help provide a more peaceful state of being. This leads to less anxiety, stress, and even depression. Less adrenal fatigue is also great for women who still need their adrenal glands to help with progesterone during peri/menopause.
How do I use Magnesium Oil Spray?
Easy peasy! Just spray 3-5 sprays on the bottom of each foot right before bedtime. Takes about fifteen to thirty minutes to travel through the bloodstream and take affect. Some people might feel some tingling where sprayed and this is completely normal, especially for those extremely deficient in magnesium. The more often you use, the less it tingles. Much like diet and exercise, the magic happens with daily consistent use. While there is an immediate effect, the benefits build on eachother over time, especially as it relates to peri/menopausal and/or depression symptoms.
